Manoel dos Reis Machado
Manoel dos Reis Machado, Mestre Bimba (1900-1974),
is one of the greatest capoeiristas of all time. Excellent player, respected fighter, a
great singer and berimbau player. Mestre Bimba was the first capoeirista to receive
official government authorization to open up a capoeira academy, thus legalizing the art
after years of oppression.
Mestre Bimba revolutionized capoeira by creating
his own teaching style. His academy was even called upon by Brazilian President Getulio
Vargas to perform capoeira exhibitions.
Mestre Bimba is respected and admired by all
capoeiristas.
GRAO-MESTRE CAMISA ROXA
Edvaldo Carneiro e Silva
Mestre Camisa Roxa was considered to be Mestre
Bimba`s best student. He holds the highest rank in ABADÁ-CAPOEIRA. His function in now to
consult and help orient the organization.
He is one of the best known capoeiristas in the
world, travelling to over 50 countries, bringing capoeira and Brazilian culture with him.
He currently lives in Austria and is the European
ABADÁ-CAPOEIRA coordinator.
MESTRE CAMISA
Jose Tadeu Carneiro Cardoso
Mestre Camisa began learning capoeira with the help
of his brother, Grao-Mestre Camisa Roxa. He later went on to train at Mestre Bimba`s
academy, from which he graduated.
Mestre Camisa is considered to be one of the most
technically astute capoeiristas in the world. He is the president and founder of
ABADÁ-CAPOEIRA, and is the largest proponent for the professionalism of the capoeirista.
Mestre Camisa is avid supporter for the adoption of capoeira in schools as a required
curriculum.
